J.L. Gaynor takes the reader on a wonderful ride in her novel. The characters instantly capitivate, particularly with their voices. The dialogue, internal and conversationally, fills the imagination with the sincerity of emotional presence; so much, in fact, I felt as though I was with them. Loved it. First love is hard enough on its own. When life gets in the way it can cause tremors that can change the landscape of your life. This story shares with us Kate and Susan's love for one another, betrayal and anger and the steps to forgiveness. It's a powerhouse of emotion that will strike at your heart. I recommend reading this book on a weekend (when you have nothing else planned) with a comfy couch, a tall cool glass of tea, takeout and a hug pillow because you won't want to put it down.
This is a lovely story - one I will reread. Good character development and real emotional responses. Just the right amount of conflict and a rather surprising ending.
Every story has two sides, at least. Yet, many novels show everything from one point of view. DRIVE by J. L. Gaynor tells the story from Kate’s and then Susan’s point of views. This could be messy and repetitive, but Gaynor avoids both pitfalls and created an enjoyable, albeit emotional, story. First loves are exciting and can leave permanent scars. This book delves into the importance of relationships, friendships, and forgiveness. It’s a wonderful story that sucked me in and made me think.
Drive is the tale of Kate and Susan. JL Gaynor takes us on their journey through the pangs of first love to betrayal and heartache and finally to an unexpected resolution years in the making. One of the things I liked best about this book is that it is told in the first person voice and the author gives us both women's point of view. We get to know what is going on in each woman's head and heart and see why they make the decisions they do. The ending was a terrific. I don't want to give it away but I will tell you that it is sweet and leaves you well satisfied.
Susan’s abrupt exit left Kate heartbroken and tattered. So, when Susan turns up in her life again and again, Kate is forced to deal with her feelings for Susan. The problem, however, is that Kate can’t decide to love her or hate her. Given a healthy dose of miscommunications and misunderstandings, part one leaves you hanging with plenty of questions so that you have to read part two. As Susan’s side of the story unravels, the author keeps you wondering if these two women will be able to risk their hearts again.
J. L. Gaynor has created two captivating, albeit at times frustrating, characters and an ending that doesn’t disappoint. Her writing seeps with raw emotion and easily reminds us how devastating first loves can be. Drive was a great debut novel from J.L. Gaynor and I look forward to future work!
The story is a wonderful look into the lives of two women and the unexpected twists and turns each person's path takes.
This I guess you'd call it a novella I call it a Novel. Is an exciting story told in the first person by both sides of the two main characters. Talk about erotic WOW this hits the spot. It was amazing reading about the story from both characters. JL Gaynor does a fantastic job. I'll definately read more of her work.
